Rajan Sanger - Psychotherapist & Supervisor, HE Lecturer
(UKCP Reg.)
About Me
It is a fact that at some point in our lives we will find ourselves in situations where we find it difficult to cope with. These situations could cause us a lot of stress, anxiety or even cause us to become depressed, experiencing low moods. These situations can affect our relationships, personal and professional and even shape the way we experience the world.
My approach to counselling is person centred. This means I adopt a humanistic approach that is caring and non-judgemental. I'll endeavour to help you work through your problems, including anxiety, by giving you the space you need to explore the issues that are affecting you.
I'm a registered psychotherapist and clinical supervisor with extensive experience of working in education and NHS. I facilitate group-work in organisations, work with individuals in safeguarding, children's services and schools, care teams, foster and other organisations where young people might be the priority.
I provide a therapeutic space without bias and appreciation of age, gender, race, religion or sexual preference and orientation.
As you use the sessions to explore your anxiety, or what it is you are experiencing, the therapeutic relationship will develop.
The beginning of therapy is marked by agreement of boundaries on confidentiality. This helps reduce anxiety and speak freely about issues that are difficult to speak to colleagues or family about.
The therapist does not tell you what to do but, will help find a way to process what does come up in a way that is helpful to you.
Specialised Therapeutic Approaches
Work with Couples
I work from an attachment based perspective looking at patterns of communication, anxiety, conflict and disharmony within relationships.
Couples therapy can help address persistent conflicts, improve communication patterns, and rebuild trust after challenges. My approach helps couples recognise unhealthy patterns and develop stronger connections.
Work with Young People
I specialise in working with young people and adolescents who present with anxiety, among other issues in a non-directive way.
Adolescence brings unique challenges requiring specialised therapeutic approaches. I create a safe space for young people to explore their emotions, develop coping strategies, and build resilience during this crucial developmental period.
Work with Adults and Supervision
I work with adults and provide supervision for trainees and fellow psychotherapists.
Adult therapy addresses a wide range of concerns from anxiety and depression to relationship issues and life transitions. As a clinical supervisor, I support other mental health professionals in developing their practice and maintaining ethical standards.
EMDR (Accr.) UK & Ireland
Therapeutic work can either be short-term, with a specific objective or goal in mind, or long-term. I am bound by the UKCP (United Kingdom Council of Psychotherapy) code of ethics and subject to their professional conduct procedure.
Therapeutic Approaches
My training and experience allow me to draw from multiple therapeutic modalities to best serve your unique needs. Although my primary approach is person-centred, I do draw on analytical and psychodynamic principles along with CBT. My objective is to offer a unique approach based on the client's needs.
Person-Centred Therapy
This humanistic approach creates a supportive environment where you can explore your feelings without judgment, encouraging self-discovery and personal growth.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
CBT helps identify and change negative thought patterns and behaviours, providing practical strategies for managing difficult emotions and situations.
Psychodynamic Therapy
This approach explores how past experiences influence current behaviours and relationships, helping you understand underlying patterns affecting your wellbeing.
EMDR Therapy
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing is particularly effective for processing traumatic memories and reducing their emotional impact.
Other therapies I offer include Behavioural therapy, Couples therapy, Group therapy, Humanistic therapies, Integrative counselling, Mindfulness, Play therapy, Psychoanalysis, Psychoanalytic therapy, Solution focused brief therapy, and more.

Frequently Asked Questions
1
What happens during the first session?
The initial session is an opportunity for us to meet, discuss what brings you to therapy, and determine if we're a good fit. I'll explain how I work, address any questions you might have, and begin to understand your goals for therapy. This session helps establish the foundation for our therapeutic relationship and sets the direction for future work together.
2
How long does therapy typically last?
Therapeutic work can either be short-term, with a specific objective or goal in mind, or long-term. The duration varies depending on your individual needs, the complexity of the issues you're facing, and your personal progress. Some clients benefit from just a few sessions, while others find value in ongoing support over several months or longer. We'll regularly review our work together to ensure it continues to meet your needs.
3
What are your fees and payment policies?
Sessions last for 50 minutes, although you can book a double session if that's what you feel you need. Payment can be made by cash or bank transfer. I offer concessions for low income individuals, keyworkers, students, trainee counsellors, and unemployed persons. I'm also registered with health insurance providers including Axa Health, Vitality, and WPA. If you need to cancel, please provide 24 hours notice to avoid being charged for the session.
My availability is Monday to Saturday from 8.00 a.m to 8.30 p.m. I do have space for training or experiential workshops on Sundays.
